Town of Eden, NY  Job Openings

The Town of Eden is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire Inspector (Building Safety
Inspector). Under the general direction of the Building Department, the Fire Inspector performs fire
safety and property maintenance inspections of existing buildings to ensure compliance with the New
York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and applicable local regulations.​

Town of Eden Fire Inspector

The Town of Eden is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Fire Inspector. Under the general direction of the Building Department, the Fire Inspector performs fire safety and property maintenance inspections of existing buildings to ensure compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and applicable local regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct detailed inspections of buildings and structures to determine compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code.
  • Perform fire safety and property maintenance inspections of residential, commercial, industrial, and public buildings.
  • Conduct inspections for special events, including the annual Eden Corn Festival.
  • Identify fire hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain inspection records.
  • Notify property owners of violations and unsafe conditions.
  • Recommend corrective actions and appropriate remedial measures.
  • Explain fire prevention regulations and code requirements to property owners, contractors, businesses, and the general public.
  • Issue orders requiring unsafe conditions to be corrected in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma; and

One (1) year of experience as a volunteer or paid firefighter or as a fire inspector

Certification Requirements

The selected applicant must obtain New York State certification as a Fire Inspector in accordance with 19 NYCRR Part 1208.

Certification requires successful completion of Basic Training Courses 9A, 9B, and 9C, offered through free live webinars provided by the New York State Department of State.

Training must be completed within six (6) months of appointment or within six (6) months from the start of the first required training course, whichever occurs first.

Once certified, the inspector must complete six (6) hours of annual in-service training each calendar year to maintain certification.

Compensation
$75 per completed inspection

Working Conditions
The position requires field inspections in a variety of weather conditions, walking, climbing stairs and
ladders when necessary, and communicating effectively with residents, contractors, business owners,
and public officials.
